Have you ever dreamed of having that perfect shade of pink nail polish? Or that midnight sky blue? Now you can! Orly's pop up shop allows us to create your nail polish color and have it bottled. Here is my experience at the Orly Color Lab in Los Angeles.

Back in January (pre-covid), my colleagues and I had the opportunity to do this activity as part of a team-building experience. We had so much fun and got very creative.

The space inspiring and aesthetically pleasing.

Once you are ready, there is a tablet station, where you can start creating your color by going through a personality quiz. Also, if you do have a specific color in mind and it is found on an object, you can bring it to the lab and the Orly mixologists can recreate it exactly as is.

Fun fact: Cool facts: Orly nail polishes are cruelty-free, vegan, and 13 free formula!

Once you are done brainstorming your color, a mixologist will call you to the mixing bar! Seeing your color blend to life is very cool. If wanted, you can add a cool finish to your nail polish, such as pearl or metallic shimmers.

And voilà! You even get to name your color! Here are the colors that my colleagues and I created.

Here are some precautions that Orly are taking because of Covid, to make everyone safe:

  • Orly is now offering limited in-person sessions from Thursday to Saturday.

  • Appointments are required so that they can limit the number of people in-store

  • Staff and customers are all required to wear masks at all times, and they have shields set up at their mixing bar for better social distancing

  • All surfaces are cleaned before and after each appointment, and they have hand sanitizer available throughout the store.

If you are not comfortable, they also offer the option to do virtually, by sending an image of the color you wish to create!

Gucci hosted a private party event to launch its new Gucci Lipsticks line and other beauty products.

Some of the new products included: a wide range of lip products such as lipsticks with different finishes such as glitter, matte, metallic, satin, sheer. If lipstick isn't your thing, they have lip balms for a soft color glow.

The Gucci Mascara L'Obscur has a buildable formula that will add volume and length to your eyelashes.

Different rooms were curated to get immersed with every beauty product, including a bar with all Gucci perfumes displayed for testing, a secret photo booth room that you get access by pulling a book out of a library, a room surrounded with mirrors to see yourself in 360 and a mini studio with a photographer.

If you are curious, I own Gucci Bloom, and it smells heavenly: it has a floral scent (jasmine, to be precise) without being too overwhelming. I use it almost every day. My next addition would be the Bloom Profumo di Fiori which came out recently (the one that recently came out, it's the yellow bottle!)

I love that Gucci uses models for their ad campaigns that are different from the "beauty standard" that would usually go.

I had the golden opportunity to have brunch curated by Sophia Roe and Michelin Star Chef Josiah Citrin. The event was held at the Line Hotel and was a collaboration with Imperfect Produce.

The purpose of this brunch: demonstrate that good food doesn't have to be good-looking. We tend to stay away from odd-shaped, flawed, or uncommon shape veggies or fruit when doing our groceries - but that doesn't make them less nutritious and tasty!

Josiah greeted us and explained how important it is to reduce food waste and how it can have a great impact on the environment.

According to Imperfect food: "

Each year, an estimated 40% of the food supply goes to waste in the US; that's over 136 billion pounds, worth approximately $218 billion. That works out at 417.8lb of wasted food, worth $666, for every American each year. The average household (2.63 people) produces food waste to the value of $1,752."

Did you know that Intermarché, France's largest grocery chain, launched the idea of selling unconventional fruits and vegetables for much less in 2014? I think the idea is brilliant and should be adopted everywhere in the US and Canada! For now, you can order a basket from Imperfect Foods.

The entire menu that the chef created that day was top-notch and entirely made with excess or ugly produce:

LEFT: Chilled Prawns, Mango, Ginger, Chili RIGHT: Snap Peas, Grilled Asparagus, Cucumber Salad, Nasturtium Vinaigrette.

Fried Wild Rice Slow-Roasted Vegetables, Sesame

Black Cod, Spring Garden Vegetables, Koji

LEFT: Yukon Gold Potato Salad RIGHT: Sliced Beefsteak Tomatoes, Sherry Vinegar, Herbs

Coconut Panna Cotta, Blood Orange

At the end of the event, Imperfect Foods gave us a basket filled with vegetables and fruits to experiment and cook at home. The event inspired me to cook more with what is in season and become more creative with what I have left in my fridge.

The best part of all this: I made two good friends who also have a love for food!

Thank you to the whole team and especially Sophia Roe for hosting this eye-opener brunch.
